Thanks to our strong reputation and proven experience in delivering excellent results on airport projects, WJ Groundwater were the natural choice for Qatar and Hamad International.
Home to Qatar Airways, Hamad International Airport is located in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The terminal itself is truly spectacular, with impressive architecture and a curved roof that mimics ocean waves and sand dunes.
Building on WJ Groundwater’s long history of dewatering airport station boxes, in 2010 WJ designed, installed and operated a deepwell dewatering system for the two story station box. The basement was approximately 300m long and 25m wide and up to 20m deep, and directly adjacent to the airport lagoons which are connected to the Arabian Gulf. As well as undertaking the dewatering, WJ also undertook all the geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring for the concrete structure. This included automated in-place inclinometers, strain gauges, survey monitoring points and piezometers. WJ’s complete dewatering and monitoring solution meant that the works could be carried out with confidence.
